The Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick's master of accountancy in taxation is a 30-credit part-time program designed for busy, working professionals seeking to prepare for the CPA exam or for current CPAs seeking to advance their careers.

Ranked as a Top 50 Master's in Taxation program globally, the master of accountancy in taxation is a flexible accounting degree that gives professionals a competitive advantage in the field of taxation and satisfies the 150-hour requirement for the CPA exam.

This program imparts a critical knowledge of the major technical, conceptual, and research issues in the taxation area, and provides much needed practical and procedural training. Students will also explore the ethical and legal obligations of practice, and collaborating with the Rutgers Law School, will have the opportunity to take tax-related law school courses.

Program Location

Most courses are held on the Newark and New Brunswick campuses. The Newark campus is within a few blocks of the Penn and Broad Street train stations and is easily accessible from all major highways. The campus offers outstanding services, including Dana Library and the Golden Dome Athletic Center. The New Brunswick (Livingston) campus is in Piscataway about a 10-minute drive from downtown.

Note: For all elective courses, Federal Income Taxation (22:010:603) is a prerequisite. Based upon candidate's prior work experience, however, this prerequisite may be waived on a case-by-case basis.
Note: Not all of the above courses are offered each semester.

Prerequisites

Before taking elective tax courses, students should complete the graduate income tax course.

Admissions

Ideal candidates for the program, which is administered on a part-time basis, should hold a bachelor's or master's degree with an accounting background, or have practiced in the area of taxation. Candidates must meet the admissions requirements of Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick, including a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

In addition to an online application, applicants must submit:

Application fee (nonrefundable) of $70.
Official transcripts
Applicants must submit an official transcript for each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.
GMAT test results are NOT required.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
You must submit the TOEFL or PTE Academic test if your native language is not English. Not required of students who have done three or more years of their undergraduate work or have obtained a graduate degree in the United States.

2. PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language proficiency test designed to measure reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as they are used in an academic setting. Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 68 on PTE Academic.

Essay: you must select one of the three essay topics below. Essay should be typed, double-spaced, and two pages in length.

o Essay topics: (a) describe an ethical dilemma you have faced and how you resolved it; (b) explain what you have learned from your experience as a member of a team whose project was not completed successfully; or (c) describe your greatest professional achievement and how you added value to your organization.

o Additional/optional essay: Provide any additional information not addressed elsewhere in your application materials that will help the Admissions Committee learn more about your candidacy. Please address any employment gaps, academic concerns, strengths or weaknesses.

International Applicants
International students (those seeking an F-1 visa) are not eligible for this program.
